These days, it seems like the automotive world is moving more quickly than ever, with several factors undergoing great change with each new model year. Whether it’s a massive shift toward electrification or the development of intelligent self-driving technologies, there is no shortage of news coming from all corners of the automotive landscape, and that includes some big news for Cadillac in the coming years. While the 2021 lineup is more or less set, there are some changes to discuss, along with some major developments for 2022 that Birmingham drivers will want to keep an eye on. As always, Classic Cadillac of Birmingham has you covered with a breakdown of what’s coming next so you can be ready to check out the next generation of Cadillac design and technology.

What’s New for 2021?

There aren’t massive changes to the overall Cadillac lineup in 2021, but one legendary name has undergone a total overhaul for the new model year. The 2021 Cadillac Escalade has been completely redesigned, and it’s bringing improved luxury, performance, and technology to the table to improve your complete driving experience.

For starters, the 2021 Cadillac Escalade now comes with both a standard and long-wheelbase variant, giving you the option to expand both your passenger and cargo space if the standard model isn’t quite large enough to accommodate your family and all of their stuff. The interior of both models is incredibly flexible, giving you options to slide, fold, or remove seats as needed to adjust between passenger and cargo space, but that isn’t the most impressive thing you’ll find inside the new Escalade.

That nod goes to the massive 38-inch curved LED display that stretches across the instrument cluster and center console. The center section is a 14.2-inch digital instrument cluster with several customizable modes to show you exactly the information you want. Off to the left, a 7.2-inch display sits to give you critical information about the world around you including blind-spot monitoring, collision warnings, and more. And on the right sits a 16.9-inch screen that houses the infotainment system as well as all of your vehicle settings and a wide range of connectivity options.

There’s more tech to be found once you actually hit the road in your new Cadillac Escalade as well. The Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system has made its way into the flagship Cadillac SUV, and it makes driving a breeze by letting you focus simply on identifying hazards instead of every fine detail about how you’re driving. There is even an autonomous lane change mode that helps you shuffle over to reach your exit ramp safely, and as long as you’re ready to take control when a sudden hazard occurs or road markings become unclear, this system can enhance safety and confidence behind the wheel.

What’s Coming in 2022 for Cadillac?

Looking further toward the future, Cadillac is set to release its first-ever electric vehicle in the early part of next year. The Cadillac LYRIQ is an all-wheel drive, electric powered sport luxury crossover that features stunning new styling and a luxurious interior that has already begun to garner some attention. It takes the fight to the Mustang Mach-E thanks to an estimated 300-mile range, a figure that far eclipses similar luxury crossovers like the Porsche Taycan and Volvo XC40 Recharge. Charging is estimated to take just about an hour for a full charge on a DC fast-charging station, and you can always recharge overnight with Level 2 in-home charging capability that can be built into your LYRIQ purchase if you want it installed.
